You drop the onion in, pull the cord three or four times, and it is done, no cord to plug in, no motor to wash, no standing at the board with your eyes streaming. It does the garlic and the ginger and the nuts and the herbs the same way, and the whole thing comes apart and goes in the top rack. I picked it because the reason most of us stop cooking properly is not the cooking, it is the twenty minutes of chopping before it.
