The ones I put in are 18-inch and 24-inch Moen bars, white finish, bolted into studs on either side of the tub and beside the toilet. The under-$30 ones from Moen, Delta, and AmazonCommercial are functionally identical for a home bathroom; the price difference between them and the “premium” stainless models is mostly finish. Pick the length that fits the space and the finish that doesn't clash with the rest of the room. If you can't drill into a stud, a handyperson visit runs $50–100 in most markets and is cheaper than one urgent-care copay.
Shower chairs and benches
The two brands worth the money are Drive Medical and Carex. Aluminum frame, drainage holes in the seat, adjustable-height legs, rubber feet. Drive Medical's aluminum bath bench is lighter and easier to move out for cleaning. Carex's universal bath seat is broader and steadier for someone who needs to lean weight into it. Skip the generic plastic-only models — the welds are the failure point and you can feel the difference the second you sit down.
Non-slip mats and tub treads
Gorilla Grip is the one I use. The rubber underside has hundreds of small suction cups, the top texture actually grips on wet enamel, and the long version covers the full tub floor instead of leaving a slippery zone at the entry. Replace every 12–18 months — even the good ones lose grip eventually, and a mat that's slid out of place once is worse than no mat at all. Are suction-cup grab bars safe to use?
No, not for fall protection — and this is the single most important thing on this page. Suction-cup grab bars are fine for hanging a towel or steadying yourself in calm conditions, but they are not load-rated to catch the weight of a person who has actually slipped. What’s the best non-slip mat for a bathtub?

How do you install a grab bar if you can’t drill into the wall?

They don’t touch the wall at all, they sit around the toilet base, and they handle most of the sit-and-stand assistance that a wall grab bar would. What I would not do: trust a suction-cup bar because it’s “easier than calling someone.” The one-time install cost is the deal here.
