You’re already paying for Prime — here are the perks you’re not using.
Gas savings, free food delivery, grocery discounts, cheap medicine, and more. All included.
The short version
Most of us use Prime for shipping and call it a day — but the membership quietly includes a gas discount, a free Grubhub+ membership ($120/yr value), Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh discounts, low-cost RxPass medications, free Kindle reading, unlimited photo storage, and Prime Gaming. Here’s how to switch each one on.

Hi everyone, Hanna here. I’m a little obsessed with getting every dollar out of something I already pay for — and Prime is the biggest offender. Most folks use it for free shipping and never touch the rest. So here’s my plain-English list of the perks worth turning on this week. (Availability can vary by area, so think of this as your checklist to go poke around your account.)
1. About 10¢ off every gallon of gas
Link your Prime account to bp’s Earnify program at amazon.com/fuelsavings, add your phone number, and enter it at the pump. You’ll save roughly 10 cents a gallon at participating bp, Amoco, and ampm stations. It adds up every fill-up.
2. A free Grubhub+ membership (about $120/year)
Prime includes a free Grubhub+ membership, which normally runs about $120 a year. It gives you $0 delivery fees on eligible orders (usually $12 or more) — lovely on the days you’d rather not cook. Activate it through your Amazon account.
3. 10% off at Whole Foods
Prime members get an extra 10% off most sale items at Whole Foods, plus special Prime Member Deal prices on select products. Connect your account in the app and scan the code at checkout.
4. Amazon Fresh grocery savings
On top of Whole Foods, Prime members get member pricing on Amazon Fresh groceries and free delivery on qualifying orders — handy for stocking the pantry without a trip out.
5. RxPass: low-cost generic medications
For about $5 a month, the optional RxPass add-on covers a list of common generic prescriptions for many everyday conditions, with unlimited refills and free delivery. It’s not in every state, so check whether your medications are on the list.
6. Free Kindle reading
Prime Reading gives you a rotating library of free Kindle books and magazines — no extra charge. Great for a long afternoon or a trip.
7. Unlimited photo storage
Prime members get unlimited full-resolution photo storage with Amazon Photos, versus a small free amount for everyone else. A quiet, genuinely useful perk for all those grandkid pictures.
8. Prime Gaming
Prime Gaming includes free PC games every month and a free channel subscription on Twitch — a nice one to pass along to the gamers in the family.
Frequently asked questions
What are the most underused Amazon Prime perks?
The ones people forget they’re paying for: a per-gallon gas discount at participating stations, a free Grubhub+ membership for free food delivery, Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh member discounts, RxPass for low-cost generic medications, free Kindle reading, unlimited photo storage, and Prime Gaming. They’re all included with a standard Prime membership.
How does the Amazon Prime gas discount work?
Prime members can save about 10 cents per gallon at participating bp, Amoco, and ampm stations. You link your Prime account to bp’s Earnify rewards program at amazon.com/fuelsavings, add your phone number, and enter it at the pump to get the discount.
Is Grubhub+ really free with Prime?
Yes. Prime members can activate a free Grubhub+ membership, which is normally about $120 a year. It gets you $0 delivery fees on eligible orders (typically $12 or more). You activate it through your Amazon account and keep it as long as you’re a Prime member.
What discounts do I get at Whole Foods with Prime?
Prime members get an extra 10% off most sale items, plus special “Prime Member Deal” prices on select products. Connect your Prime account in the Whole Foods or Amazon app and scan the code at checkout to apply the savings.
What is Amazon RxPass?
RxPass is an optional Prime add-on, about $5 a month, that covers a list of common generic medications for many everyday conditions, with unlimited refills and free delivery. It isn’t available in every state and isn’t for everyone, so check whether your prescriptions are on the list.
Do these perks cost extra?
Most are included with the Prime membership you already have, at no additional charge. A couple are optional add-ons (like RxPass), and they’re clearly priced. The point of this list is to use the free ones you’re already paying for.
How much is Amazon Prime, and is there a free trial?
Amazon Prime is $14.99 a month or $139 a year, and new members can usually start with a 30-day free trial. If you mostly want one specific perk, it’s worth adding up what that perk costs on its own versus the membership.
